Have a client running 6.0, they were using an analog conference phone with an ATA. It does not work. It keeps hanging up the original party. I had them attempt it with a plain 2500 set. Had the same issue.

To Clarify.

They get a second dial tone when they use the HF, they are able to dial the 3rd party and connect to the 3rd party. But when they try to HF again to join the call, it hangs up both.

Ideas?

Yep. Have your client pick up a Polycom IP 3000 phone, specifically designed for the NBX system and ditch the ATA.

Conferencing on the NBX requires multicast, which is getting lost in the D/A conversion at that ATA.

Good recommendation, however beware that the IP 3000s are in end of life as of 6/06. Polycom will only support them until 05/11. I have found them to be much more problematic then regular analog conference phones. You may want to look into getting a conferencing service like MyMeetings.com.

Correct, it does require multicast, but the ATA's are able to do conferencing. This is as per the 3Com documentation, and I have done it before myself.

Paging works on the system and that also requires multicast.

Make or receive a call
+ HF
(Dial Tone)
+ extension or telephone number or speed dial
(speak to the party)
+ HF
(Confirmation Tone)
(Three parties are now on the call)

Try using a regular analog tel on the line . See if you can conference from that first . maybe a problem with the conf tel . That way you can determine which is the issue , the NBX or the Conf tel . sometimes wierd issues do happen like that . Also , you should be running R6.0.63 code .

I figured it out, the client had the Fax Machine checkbox checked. Once it was unchecked the problem went away.
